Pul-E-Khumari (Afghanistan), February 23: Thirty-six people were injured when a long-distance bus collided head-on with a truck on a highway in Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province on Tuesday, a local official said.
"The accident occurred along the Salang Highway in the northern part of snowy Salang Pass at midday. The injured were shifted to a main hospital in Pul-e-Khumri city," Nazir Ebadi, director of the provincial Traffic Police Directorate, told Xinhua.
Some of the injured were in serious condition, according to the official.
The bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving pending a further investigation.
Road mishaps are frequent in the mountainous country and occur mostly due to reckless driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
