Cairo (Egypt), December 22: Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi discussed on Tuesday the recent developments in Libya with visiting President of the Presidency Council of Libya Mohamed Menfi.
During the meeting in the capital Cairo, Sisi affirmed Egypt's full support for all that would achieve Libya's supreme interest, support the free will of its people, and preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.
For his part, Menfi praised the vital Egyptian efforts to restore security and stability in Libya and unify state institutions, especially the Libyan National Army (LNA), together with the efforts made by the 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission.
Menfi presented the overall internal political situation in Libya, saying it was agreed to intensify consultation and coordination between the two sides during the coming period.
The two sides also agreed to follow up on developments in the political process and procedures for managing the transitional phase, in a way that helps restore Libya's stability and unify its institutions and ensures the Libyan people gain complete control over the country's capabilities.
Libya is scheduled to hold presidential elections on Dec. 24 and the parliamentary elections in January next year, with an aim to bring stability to the war-torn country.
