Former Prime Minister Conille was chosen to return to lead Haiti in the midst of the crisis

Port-au-Prince [Haiti], May 29: Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council on April 28 nominated former Prime Minister Garry Conille to return to the role of steering this Caribbean country to restore stability and security amid gang conflicts.
Responding to Reuters on May 28, a member of the Council said that members voted 6:1 to appoint Mr. Conille as interim prime minister of Haithi.
Mr. Edgard Leblanc, head of the council, shared on the X platform: "After discussions in the transition council at hearings with candidates for prime minister, Mr. Garry Conille was highly approved to lead the government during this transition period."
The selection of Mr. Conille to assume the position of prime minister shows progress in Haiti 's political process after Prime Minister Ariel Henry resigned in April. In 2021, then-Haitian president Jovenel Moise was assassinated. close. Since then, Haiti has been without a president. According to Haiti's constitution, the country needs to elect a new president by July 2026.
Previously, Mr. Conille served as Haiti's prime minister for only 7 months and resigned in February 2012.
