Jerusalem [Israel], August 6: Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on August 5 that Iran had decided to attack Israel. The message was conveyed to Israel through Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, who called Katz directly to inform him that he had received information from Iran's Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri, according to The Jerusalem Post .
"Iran has informed us that they intend to attack Israel ," Mr. Katz said.
In a meeting with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, Bagheri said Iran was determined to respond to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week. Israel has not claimed responsibility for the attack but is accused of being behind it.
US officials said on August 4 that Iran's response could come within the next 24-48 hours. In a live broadcast from the Mar-a-Lago resort (Florida, USA) on August 5, former US President Donald Trump said he had heard information that Iran would attack Israel "tonight".
The Republican presidential candidate said that if he were president, there would be no attack on Israel "because 100% it would not happen."
Receiving Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in Tehran on August 5, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that Israel will certainly receive a response "for its crimes". He accused Israel's actions against the people of the Gaza Strip and the assassination of the Hamas leader as a clear example of violating all international rules and laws.
Meanwhile, Iranian MP Mohammad Qasim Osmani has called for the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in retaliation for the killing of Mr Haniyeh. "We do not agree with anything except the death of Netanyahu," TASS quoted the MP as saying.
