Mainland urges DPP to stop political manipulation over COVID-19 vaccines

Jun 19, 2021

Beijing (China) June 19: A Chinese mainland spokesperson Friday urged Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority not to continue political manipulation over the island's purchase of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when commenting on the DPP authority's agreement to authorize two organizations in Taiwan to purchase COVID-19 vaccines from the German pharmaceutical company BioNTech.
The Shanghai-based Fosun Pharma has been working with BioNTech on the research and development of BioNTech vaccines with exclusive commercial rights and interests on the Chinese mainland and in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, according to Ma.
Fosun has long made it clear that it is willing to provide the vaccines to Taiwan compatriots, and has been actively promoting the supply of the vaccines to Taiwan, said Ma.
The mainland hopes that all relevant parties on the island can soon reach an agreement with Fosun under business rules so that Taiwan people can receive the vaccines as early as possible, Ma stressed.
Ma denounced that the DPP authority deliberately evaded the above facts and is still playing political games when the people on the island are in urgent need of vaccines.
Ma urged the DPP authority to stop using the lives and health of Taiwan people as a bargaining chip for political manipulation.
