Phnom Penh [Cambodia], May 30: Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen had to refuse Kyiv's request to send Cambodian experts to clear mines in Ukraine.
The above request was made by Ukrainian National Assembly Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk in an online meeting with Mr. Hun Sen on the evening of May 28, according to Khmer Times today, May 30.
After the meeting, Mr. Hun Sen shared on Facebook that he informed Mr. Stefanchuk that Cambodia could not send demining experts directly to Ukraine because the Cambodian Constitution does not allow demining forces to be sent abroad. outside, but they can participate in missions under the auspices of the United Nations.
However, Mr. Hun Sen said he told the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament that Cambodia would consider the possibility of training more Ukrainian deminers through cooperation with the Japanese government.
"Cambodia has cooperated with Japan to train Ukrainian deminers. Therefore, Cambodia will continue to consider the possibility of training Ukrainian deminers through cooperation with Japan," Mr. Hun said. Sen said.
In addition to demining in Ukraine, Mr. Stefanchuk also mentioned the proposed 10-point formula to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity and peace, and called on Cambodia to support this peace initiative.
Mr. Stefanchuk also invited Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to attend the peace summit in Ukraine to be held in Geneva (Switzerland) in mid-June.
In response, Mr. Hun Sen said that Cambodia would consider the above 10-point formula and delegate the right to decide to participate in the summit to the government of this country.
However, Mr. Hun Sen added that the peace summit must be attended by all relevant parties in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
