Colombo (Sri Lanka), February 19: A Sri Lankan court on Friday freed two former officials who had been charged over the Easter Sunday suicide bomb attacks in April 2019 which killed over 260 people.
The Colombo High Court acquitted former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundera and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando from all charges after they were charged with criminal misconduct for failing to take action to prevent the terrorist attacks despite receiving intelligence information prior to the attacks.
Following a lengthy trial, the judges issued an order acquitting and releasing the two accused.
The Easter Sunday blasts by suicide attackers which targeted churches and hotels were one of the bloodiest incidents recorded in Sri Lanka's history.
