Sri Lankan PM demands completion of housing projects for low-income groups by 2024

Colombo (Sri Lanka), February 25: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday instructed officials of the ministry of urban development and housing to complete the country's all housing projects for low-income families by 2024.
At a meeting, the prime minister also instructed officials to implement urban development projects in accordance with the national action plan.
Additional Secretary to the ministry, Dr. M.M.S.B. Yalegama said that it is planned 50,000 houses will be built for low-income families by 2024.
"In Colombo our aim is to provide apartments to the poor. Already, 14,611 units have been completed. Another 5,590 in Colombo are under construction," Yalegama said.
In Colombo, Yalegama added that 1,996 houses are being built with the Chinese aid, along with 1,472 houses being built using the Asian Development Bank grants.
