Tokyo stocks rise slightly in morning on dip-buying, hopes for vaccine

Tokyo (Japan), March 3: Tokyo stocks rose marginally Wednesday morning as investors sought out issues that retreated following the market's decline the previous day, with sentiment underpinned by hopes U.S. biotechnology firm Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine will be approved here this week.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 51.54 points, or 0.18 percent, from Tuesday to 29,459.71.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.79 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,897.64.
Iron and steel, nonferrous metal and marine transportation issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
