Ukraine is about to lose strategic city faster than expected?

Nov 28, 2024

Kyiv [Ukraine], November 28: Intense clashes between Russian and Ukrainian troops continue in the city of Kurakhove (Donetsk province, eastern Ukraine), especially concentrated in the central districts.
According to Avia Pro on November 27, controlling the center of Kurakhove would help one side create momentum for an attack or strengthen its defense. According to field reports, Russian forces are said to have controlled 60% of Kurakhove and the Ukrainian side is at risk of losing control of this strategic city faster than expected.
Kyiv has not given details of the situation, other than to say that its defenses have repelled 46 Russian attacks on Kurakhove. Earlier this month, the Financial Times quoted the commander of the Ukrainian artillery unit in Kurakhove as saying that Russia was attacking the city from three directions and that Ukrainian troops were ready to retreat when ordered. Taking control of Kurakhove is believed to give Moscow a foothold to advance from there to another strategic city, Pokrovsk, about 45 km to the north.
In another development, the Mayor of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, said yesterday that Moscow's drone attacks on the city overnight injured three people. On the Russian side, the country's Defense Ministry yesterday reported the destruction of 22 Ukrainian UAVs launched into Russian territory. Regarding the new ballistic missile called Oreshnik that Russia launched into Ukraine last week, Kyiv sources said on November 26 that the missile carried a dummy warhead, did not contain explosives and caused insignificant damage. Meanwhile, TASS news agency reported yesterday that Russia is completing the steps to put more RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles into combat duty, the latest missile model deployed from a silo.
