New York [US], September 7: The US Department of Defense has just released a spending report, showing that Pennsylvania, Arizona and Texas are among the states that have benefited the most from funding and investment to arm Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
Pennsylvania, a battleground state in the November 5 presidential election, received the most money compared to other states, with $2.52 billion in spending and investment to produce weapons and ammunition to support Ukraine, according to Reuters on September 7, citing documents recently released by the Pentagon.
Ten months ago, the administration of US President Joe Biden first began circulating state-level data in Congress to gain more support in the race with the Republican Party.
The White House stressed last year that many of the weapons sent to Kyiv would be in return for billions of dollars in new contracts won by American companies employing domestic workers.
Weapons companies such as RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon Technology Corporation) in Arizona, which produces Patriot air defense systems, and General Dynamics, which produces artillery shells in states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas, have received billion-dollar contracts.
Arizona saw $2.02 billion in Ukraine-related spending and investment, while Texas had $1.85 billion.
The documents provide a detailed state-by-state breakdown of $41.7 billion in procurement, investment and replacement spending for all types of weapons systems in more than 35 states to support Ukraine.
