US newspaper estimates Ukrainian forces suffered more than 460,000 casualties

Kyiv [Ukraine], November 28: The Economist newspaper said that the number of Ukrainian soldiers killed has exceeded 60,000, and more than 400,000 people were seriously wounded and unable to continue fighting.
The figures for Ukraine are difficult to confirm independently. The Economist calculated them based on data from reports from intelligence agencies, defense officials, researchers and open-source intelligence published or leaked.
The above casualty figure probably does not include soldiers missing in action, the US magazine added.
Analysts also cited data from the UA losses website , estimating that at least 60,435 Ukrainian soldiers have died since February 24, 2022. Accordingly, the war has claimed the lives of more than 0.5% of the male population of military age (18-49 years old) in Ukraine.
However, The Economist does not think the above data is excessive, but even estimates that the actual number must be much higher.
6 to 8 Ukrainian soldiers were seriously wounded.
"Assuming that for every death on the battlefield, six to eight Ukrainian soldiers were seriously wounded, that means that for every 20 men of fighting age, nearly one was either dead or so severely wounded that he could no longer fight," the article said.
Regarding the loss of Russian forces, The Economist in July gave a figure of between 106,000 and 140,000 soldiers. The magazine acknowledged that it was difficult to collect data on the Ukrainian side's losses because the allies were "reticent" in providing figures.
The Economist 's figures do not include data on civilians.
In February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky first announced that Ukraine had lost 31,000 soldiers.
The Wall Street Journal on September 17 reported that 80,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died and about 400,000 were wounded. President Zelensky rejected this figure.
Russia has not commented on the above information.
