A Vietnamese tourist named Tuyet Nguyen (52 years old) was hit and killed by a train in Australia, after climbing down the tracks to pick up his slippers.
She was hit by a train at Punchbowl station, southwest of Sydney, Australia
Witnesses were shocked by the scene and called for help from station staff to get her out of the jammed tracks
Sydney Trains sent its condolences to the victim's family and friends. "This is a tragic and traumatic incident for all involved. We would like to thank the Sydney Trains team, the emergency services and those who supported their efforts," a company spokesperson said.
Toan Huynh, Tuyet Nguyen's nephew, said she came to Australia on this occasion to visit family and had been to this country many times.
Officials determined the train driver was not under the influence of alcohol. Police have also spoken to witnesses and examined surveillance cameras in the area to investigate the incident. The accident forced changes to several train schedules in Sydney, with some cancelled and replaced by buses.
