Yet another 'inflating' fallacy about the East Sea

Yet another 'inflating' fallacy about the East Sea

May 16, 2024

Beijing [China], May 16: In particular, the South China Morning Post published an article titled: "China's research center: The risk of Vietnam expanding the dispute in Truong Sa by renovating more facilities".
Slander and distortion of the truth
The article quotes a new report by the Grandview Institution - a country's international affairs research organization. The Grandview Institution report falsely accused Vietnam of being one of the parties illegally occupying entities in the Truong Sa archipelago "over the past four decades, while constantly expanding its land area, building facilities and military deployment". Grandview Institution also blatantly slandered: "Vietnam has occupied many Chinese islands and reefs, stationed more troops and built more facilities than any other coastal country in the East Sea."
Commenting on the above report after reading it, Dr. Satoru Nagao (Hudson Research Institute, USA) last night (May 15) said: "Grandview Institution's assessment ignores the history of this area and propagates information. false".
Specifically, responding to Thanh Nien , Mr. Nagao pointed out: "China occupied half of the Hoang Sa archipelago in the 1950s and then occupied the rest in 1974. China expanded its activities in the Truong Sa archipelago and occupied 6 entities in the 1980s...".
Dr. Nagao further cited that China has continuously expanded infrastructure and militarized entities in the Truong Sa archipelago. "So, it's clear who escalated tensions! China must be responsible!", he commented and said: "Even though it is the cause of tension, China still believes that they are "victims". ". That's why many surrounding countries are concerned about China. Beijing should realize that and respect the interests of other countries."
That's right, it is China that strongly militarizes many entities in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos that belong to Vietnamese sovereignty but are illegally occupied by China. More than 5 years ago, satellite images from the international community have clearly shown the above situation.
Accordingly, along with building infrastructure, facilities, even runways, hangars..., Beijing also organizes drills and maneuvers of missiles and multi-mission fighter aircraft. to entities in the East Sea such as Phu Lam island in Hoang Sa, three reefs of Fiery Cross, Mischief and Subi in Truong Sa archipelago. Thereby, Beijing formed an air-sea firepower posture.
Regarding missiles, there are J-12B anti-ship cruise missiles (range of 400 km), YJ-6 anti-ship missiles (range of up to 200 km, depending on version), HQ air-to-air missile system. -9B and HQ-9 are considered "Chinese versions of S-300"... Regarding military aircraft, there are JH-7 fighter-bombers, long-range reconnaissance drones Harbin BZK-005, multi-role fighters J-10 and J-11, bomber H-6K.
The hangars built at Fiery Cross, Mischief and Subi reefs are enough to accommodate H-6 bombers, H-6U tanker aircraft, Y-8 transport aircraft and aircraft. KJ-200 specializes in early warning reconnaissance. Accompanied by many advanced radar systems and surveillance equipment.
Use concept swapping experts
Also yesterday, the fanpage of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia re-shared a video from China Daily about a so-called "British international law professor affirming that Xisha and Nansha belong to Chinese sovereignty." ". Xisha and Nansha are the illegal names that Beijing gave to Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, respectively. The clip contains excerpts of the professor's response to false statements claiming that Hoang Sa and Truong Sa have historically belonged to China.
However, in reality, it was the International Arbitration Court in The Hague (PCA) that in 2016 issued a ruling rejecting China's sovereignty claim in the East Sea. The ruling is based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as well as other international laws.
The professor mentioned above is Anthony Carty who researched and taught at several British universities. But over the years, he has "joined" as a legal scholar for the Beijing Institute of Technology (China) as well as worked at Tsinghua University in this country.
To increase the "weight" of false propaganda and distortion of the truth about sovereignty and the situation in the East Sea, many Chinese universities and research agencies have gathered many international experts over the years. , then from there make fallacious assessments and research to serve this country's illegal interests in the East Sea.
Typically, Dr. Mark J.Valencia works for Chinese research agencies on the East Sea. As Thanh Nien has repeatedly reflected, because of his articles distorting the truth about the East Sea issue, Dr. Valencia has often been condemned by the international scholarly community for making false statements and swapping concepts in order to "blame" China.
