Mar 07, 2020
New Delhi, Mar 07 (ANI): Union External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar attended Global Business Summit in Delhi on March 07 where he said that we (India) are getting to know who our friends really are (in the world). On being asked 'are we losing our friends (in the world)? EAM Jaishankar said, “Maybe we are getting to know who our friends really are. It’s a kind of geo-political assessment. There was time when India was very defensive, our capabilities were less, risks were more, threats were higher. So we adopted strategy, in a sense of managing the world but kind of, staying away. We can't do that anymore, we are the 5th largest economy in the world. We will one day be the 3rd largest economy in the world. Now, nature of the world has changed so, as we get more capable, as confidence level goes and our interest in the world goes, we have to do the management but in a very different way like a portfolio management. Secondly, it’s an issue of changing world, of changing India.”
