Media should not go for sensationalisation, should adhere to standard: VP Naidu

Cuttack (Odisha), Oct 07 (ANI): Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu attended the 100 year celebration of publication of an Odia daily in Cuttack. Speaking at the event, VP Naidu stressed on the importance of journalistic ethics. He said, “Simply because of competition, and temptation for TRPs, media should not go for sensationalization, there has to be sense in what you propagate. Media should introspect seriously and see to it that they all adhere to standards.” On the importance of media in democracy, he said, “Media has an important role to play in democracy, instances of fake and paid news, they're disturbing, few people are bringing bad name to journalistic community. I would like to caution everybody to see that we live by our value system and ethics.” Putting stress on the importance of mother tongue, he said, “Mother tongue is very important as it came from mother's womb, bhasha aur bhawna ek sath chalte hain. Learn your mother tongue, promote it, and learn other languages too. Government schools/educational institutes must promote mother tongue upto primary level.”
