SC directed govt to pay compensation to flat owners: Maradu Housing Protection Committee Chairman

Kochi (Kerala), Sep 27 (ANI): The Supreme Court on September 27 directed demolition of flats built on the coastal zone of Kochi's Maradu within 138 days and asked the Kerala government to pay Rs 25 lakh interim compensation to each flat owner within four weeks. While speaking to ANI, Chairman of Maradu Housing Protection Committee, Shamsudeen Karunagapally said, "We see some relief for the flat owners. Today, SC identified flat owners' rights and SC directed government to pay compensation to flat owners." "It is a good decision, but how to implement this decision, it's not very clear," he added. The top court also ordered setting up of a one-member committee of retired high court judge to oversee the demolition and assess total compensation. Court also fixed the matter for further hearing on October 25.
